Turn your travels into a video
Your journey. Your story.
Turn a Google Maps Timeline export into a shareable animation. Everything is rendered on this device.
1
Add your timeline
Upload the Timeline.json you exported from Google Maps. The file stays on this device; only map tiles are requested from the map provider.
How to export your Timeline
Open Google Maps and tap your profile picture.
Open Settings, then Personal content.
Select Export Timeline data.
Save Timeline.json in the Files app, then return here.
To keep this app on your iPhone, use Safari’s Share menu and choose Add to Home Screen.
OR
Try a sample journeyExplore a fictional trip to see how it looks.

2
Choose your time range
Pick the stretch of your timeline this video covers.
Uses recent unprocessed location estimates. Noise is reduced, but the route and distance may still be inaccurate.
3
Tell us about your video
Set the title, length, and how the camera travels.
Square plays everywhere. Portrait is cut for Instagram stories and reels: the map keeps a square in the middle of the frame, with the month above it and the countries you reached below it. Higher resolutions request more map tiles and take longer to encode; on a phone, 4K can take minutes where 1080 takes seconds.
How long should the video be?
Keep long flights short?
Otherwise one long flight can eat most of the video, since screen time follows distance. This plays the longest hops faster.
Which shape do you need?
Resolution
Higher is sharper but takes longer to create on a phone.
ThemeSets the map style and the colours drawn over it. All six are drawn on this device from OpenFreeMap vector maps, the app's only map provider, so no new service is contacted.
How should the camera move?
How should the world be framed?
Previews drawn from a stand-in journey, never your Timeline.
Show the countries you visit?
Detected on this device; nothing is sent anywhere.
Keep this tab open while the video is being created.
Untick anything you did not actually visit, then preview or create the video again. Countries found at only one recorded location are unticked already, because a single stray point can land across a border.
